Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity to join the Swiss team in Zurich as 

As Underwriting Technician, you will have responsibility for ensuring the Underwriting team is suitably enabled to transact business effectively; through accurate timely and complete recording of data, investigation of issues and relevant engagement with external & internal stakeholders. As a contributor to process and system-based improvements in support of the Underwriting team, the role will have significant involvement with the Operations department. In conjunction with Operations, the Underwriting Technician will be a key driver of task migration to our operational support area through identifying suitable tasks, training, and feedback. As part of a growing business, cross-functional collaborative initiatives will form an ongoing part of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist underwriters with account recording workflow management
  • Ensure consistent and accurate booking information from underwriters
  • Provide data to relevant underwriting and risk modelling tools
  • Support underwriters in the preparation of quotations and coverage confirmations
  • Monitor and ensure completeness and accuracy of documents
  • Participation in dunning and claims management
  • Review and provide support on operational support area task completion
  • Support management in the preparation and monitoring of reporting
  • Observation and analysis of operational processes and development of improvement proposals
  • Represent the Operations function within Underwriting team

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • 3 years of relevant professional experience in insurance operations or underwriting
  • Understanding of insurance operations throughout the life cycle of an insurance policy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Independent and structured approach to work
  • High level of commitment, sense of responsibility and ability to work in a team
  • Strong competency in MS Office applications
  • Fluent (spoken and written) in both German and English. Further language(s) is a plus
