Professor Laamanen is Chair of Strategic Management, Director at the Institute of Management and Strategy, Academic Director of the Master Program in Strategy and International Management (SIM), and Academic Director of the PhD Program in General Management at the University of St. Gallen. The Chair teams' research covers the strategic management field broadly ranging from corporate strategy to strategy implementation. Special research tems of the Chair team include M&A, management's cognition, attention and heuristics, strategy processes and practices, AI, and adaptive strategy implementation. The Chair team's research has been published, among others, in Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy, and Strategic Organization.

Doctoral Candidate and/or Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Strategic Management (m/f/d)

Your tasks

The Chair of Professor Tomi Laamanen is seeking to hire a PhD Candidate and/or Postdoctoral Researcher who are motivated to assist and support the chair's Master and PhD courses as well as to participate in the chair's research and occasional practice projects. The topic area focus of the position is “Artificial Intelligence Strategy Processes with a specialization on M&A or Adaptive Strategy Implementation”. In the case of the PhD position, it is expected that the candidate will complete his or her PhD degree as part of the appointment.

We seek candidates passionate for high-quality strategic management research, proficient in either quantitative or qualitative research methods, prepared to engage with the scientific community by participating in international conferences, and striving to publish their work in leading strategy journals.

Your profile

  • Experience in machine learning and proficiency in Python programming is not mandatory but will be considered advantageous, given the focus of the position
  • While proficiency in both spoken and written English is required, having also German language skills would be beneficial even though not a requirement for the two positions
  • Applicants must hold a Master's degree in a relevant field with a minimum grade of 5.0 (on a 6.0 scale) or be on track to complete their Master's degree within the next few months
