Introduction

The Department of Ecology and Evolution hosts a broad range of research groups, and its members enjoy a lively intellectual and social life. Although the University of Lausanne is francophone, the department is highly international, and all its research activity and seminars are conducted in English.



The University of Lausanne is a higher teaching and research institution composed of seven faculties where approximately 15,000 students and nearly 5,000 collaborators, professors, and researchers work and study. Ideally situated along the lake of Geneva, near Lausanne's city center, its campus brings together over 120 nationalities. It is situated on a beautiful campus on the shores of Lake Geneva, and is close to the Swiss and French Alps.


 


Presentation

A postdoctoral position in theoretical or computational population genetics and genomics is available in the research group of Jérôme Goudet in the Department of Ecology and Evolution, University of Lausanne. The postdoc will join a team working on Population Genomics and the understanding of the interplay of population structure, trait architecture, and selection using different approaches, from theory and the development of statistical tools to field observations. For details, see http://www.unil.ch/dee/goudet-group


Job information

Expected start date in position : 01.08.2024 or as soon as possible, but funding is available immediately


Contract length : initial period of one year, with a possible renewal of one to three years


Activity rate : 100%


Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny


Most of the postdoc’s time will be dedicated to research, but a contribution to teaching is expected, including the possibility of supervising master students. Formally, the contract stipulates :


80% Personal research


15% Participation to teaching activities


5% Maintenance of lab equipment and other institutional tasks


Your responsibilities

The postdoc’s research will build on recent papers from the group, one possible direction being investigating the properties of allele-sharing statistics.


Your qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in (theoretical or computational) population genetics, genomics, statistics, physics or applied mathematics, an interest for evolutionary questions and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate should also have good interpersonal skills and an ability to interact with others. Although not a requirement, some knowledge of French would be an asset.
