Job Description:

The Senior Legal Counsel will support Gunvor’s European Gas, Power and Derivative trading activities.  

Main Responsilibities

• Help with the day to day transactional business of the European Gas, Power and Derivatives activity of the Group

• Reviewing agreements, confirmations and templates, providing general advice to the different desks

• Structuring complex transactions and standardization of new transactions

• Provide support and guidance to the Contract Managers as regards to requests for specific language in Confirmations, Confirmation discrepancy queries and process issues

• Help with new license applications, new grid and exchange applications, help on regulatory information requests.

• Direct contact with traders on a day-to-day basis

• Liaising with internal stakeholders and providing advice to the different departments

• Anticipate issues and estimate risks strategically

• Liaise with the Global Head of Legal – LNG, Power and Gas to help plan the legal requirements of the Gas, Power and Derivatives desks

• Ad-hoc help and support with LNG transactions

Profile/Key Skills

• Qualified lawyer

• At least 8 years PQE in-house or in an international law firm dealing with transactional work in gas, power and/or oil

• Experience with European gas, power trading agreements (EFETs, PPAs, ISDAs, etc.) and non-trading agreements (balancing agreements, storage, license applications) either in house or private practice

• Experience in LNG transactions will be valued

• English fluency required, other European languages beneficial

• Good organizational and communication skills, good personal skills

• Ability to work independently and within a group

• Ability to manage multiple work activities and provide support and counsel to the trading, contracts and operations divisions

• Good team player
