Job Description
  • Reporting into the Project Director, leads the overall coordination of the engineering activities of the project
  • Leads communication with customer, consortium partner, consultants and authorities on technical matters
  • Drives the transversal engineering activities withEngineering Managers, Documentation Manager and Lead Civil Engineer reporting to him.
  • Drives the preparation of the Plant Concepts and the alignment of interfaces for all disciplines together with Project Engineer.
  • Is aware of the HSE requirements relevant to their role, and implements and complies with them

. During the start-up and engineering phase:

  • Gets a solid understanding of the technical requirements of the contract, consortium agreement and applicable regulations and strives for proper flow downs to the technical teams
  • Flows down the Project Execution Strategy, PEPP, and Project Quality Plan to his area of work. 
  • Actively works with the project scheduler and the engineering teams to drive the preparation of a project time schedule baseline that enables completion of the project within the contractual dates.
  • Participates in the preparation of the PEPP to ensure consistency of approach across the technical teams
  • Drives the conceptual engineering activities for the whole plant leading the work of theEngineering Managers, Documentation Manager and Lead Civil Engineer
  • Leads preparation and deployment of the Master Document List (MDL).
  • Works closely with theEngineering Managersadsto ensure alignment of technical interfaces, progress, areas of concern and associated required actions.
  • Steers his team to complete the engineering works within engineering budget and aligned with the Project Execution Plan.
  • Ensures that hardware costs, constructability and avoidance of cost of poor quality are continuous drivers for the engineering activities.
  • Strives for robust freezes in engineering that prevent design changes down the road. Ensures the right expertise is involved in QGR process (design reviews) to prevent poor quality is overlooked. Ensures meaningful actions are raised at QGRs (design reviews) when gaps identified, with clear action ownership, timeline and follows up actions to closure
  • Strives for no changes in the project without and approved DCR. Proactively monitors decision speed of DCRs and ensures all disciplines affected by a change are adequately informed to minimise impact.
  • Identifies all documents that will be generated out of the engineering work, and systematically tracks progress on completion.
  • Identifies all documents relevant for construction and ensures they are made available on time and with quality.
  • Proactively reviews progress of the BOQ management activities within the project to ensure alignment across the engineering team and that there are no gaps or overlaps

During the engineering phase:

  • Proactively reviews technical issues and concerns with the Engineering Managers and ensures that resolutions are aligned technically with the rest of the engineering activities of the project. 
  • Ensures engineering input (internal and external) is on time.
  • Ensures completeness of Operation Manual and fulfillment of CE conformity.

During the construction and commissioning phase:

  • Maintains close contact with the site team to ensure all required inputs are available at the required quality, engaging support of the engineering teams in case of need.
  • Takes ownership for events , ensures that impact is fed into cost and risk reporting and drives activities required to contain and permanently fix the issue.
  • Provide resolution to engineering snag items.

 
Along the project lifetime:

  • Understands and adheres to the HZI's requirements in terms of HSE and acts as a role model in front of his team.
  • Steers all technical communications towards the client and consortium partner. Identifies the critical areas to the project and drives actions to address them protecting the interest of HZI.
  • Strives for the development of a cooperative and effective relationship with client and consortium partner.
  • Engages the PD, PM and Contract manager in the resolution of all technical aspects that can have a commercial impact in the project.
  • Commits to the agreed project time schedule baseline and steers his team to adhere or outperform the schedule.
  • Proactively prepares and participates in Project Team Meetings, Cost and Risks Reviews, Engineering and Procurement Reviews, QGRs and Project Reviews and Meetings with Site team.
  • Proactively monitors critical technical interfaces within the project and ensures alignment with the project requirements.
  • Proactively highlights roadblocks and risks in his area of work, raises escalations when required and strives to find mitigations.
  • Proactively identifies the section of the Process Management System that are relevant to his work and strives for adherence.
  • Support HZI's claim management activities that are relevant to his area of work.

During the handover to Warranty:

  • Adheres to the handover to Warranty process, ensuring the Warranty team timely obtains all the inputs required to minimize issues to HZI within the warranty phase.
  • Prepares a relevant close out report for his scope.

  • Can manage contracts while maintaining good commercial and legal awareness
  • Technical management of persons with different tasks within the Project
  • Strong and multidisciplinary technical expertise
  • Good knowledge of processes and products
  • Able to mediate and resolve conflicts
  • Based on experience, can identify, adapt (according to the relevant circumstances) and execute the possible solution
  • Brings practical experience of introduction of standardized methods used to resolve complex problems
  • Develops conceptual solutions, taking operational aspects into account
  • Experience in working with numerous different suppliers/subcontractors and supply chain
  • Experience of inter-disciplinary project teams
  • Experience in technical system integration
  • Erection and commissioning experience an advantage
  • Operational experience in process plants an advantage
  • Proficient in applied engineering tools
  • Possesses IPMA or PMI certification
