Full-Stack Software Engineer (EN-IM-PLM-2024-83-GRAE)

Job Description

Your responsibilities

The Engineering (EN) Department's Information Management (IM) group is looking for a highly motivated full-stack software engineer with great technical skills and a genuine interest in learning new things. You will join a young and international development team inside the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) section, whose mission is to provide product data management capabilities, such as design and CAD (Computer Aided Design) data management, for the entire accelerator complex and its detectors.

We are currently in a challenging project of introducing a new modern PLM platform by simplifying the existing landscape of heterogenous applications and allowing the Organization to move forward towards engineering Digital Twins. In total, over 5000 users depend on the software provided by the group.

In your work, you will for example:

  • Implement backend applications using Java or .NET
  • Integrate 3D model visualization technologies: web and native viewers, virtual/augmented reality
  • Build web applications using modern technologies (React/Electron/Typescript)
  • Perform code reviews, testing, delivery and support of the software
  • Carry out data analysis and data migrations
  • Be part of a project delivering engineering Digital Twins of CERN installations

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Backend development using Java or .NET
  • Frontend development using React or Angular
  • Experience with SQL databases
  • Git
  • CI/CD tools
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Information Technology/Software Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
