Junior Algorithm Developer - Intern

Join our dynamic team at SOPHiA GENETICS, a leading innovator in the field of data-driven precision medicine, as a Junior Algorithm Developer for a 6 months internship.   

Your mission: 

Over 30% of staff at SOPHiA GENETICs hold PhDs. You will be joining a small team of experts specializing in the research and development of cutting-edge software solutions for analyzing copy number variation (CNV) data derived from next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. CNVs affect susceptibility to cancer by regulating gene expression and play a crucial role in tumor suppressor genes. Over the years, the CNV team has released leading algorithms for CNV detection, gene conversion and star allele analysis.

By joining us, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the research and development of state-of-the-art tools at the cutting edge of the field, with impact on research and clinical applications worldwide. 

 

You will be involved in:

  • Participating in new feature development, testing/benchmarking activities of copy number variation software (internal and external tools)  
  • Designing and developing new production modules for existing internal copy number variation software for targeted panels  
  • Collaborating with bioinformatics experts to perform NGS data analysis  
  • Creating and updating work instructions and documenting activities performed  
  • Generating presentations and reports for activities performed  

This list of tasks is not exhaustive, the intern may work on other projects as well.

Requirements

The experience you bring: 

  • PhD or Master's degree in life sciences, Engineering, Physics, Bioinformatics or related field 
  • Experience in programming languages R, and Python or C++  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and data visualisation  
  • Familiarity with a Unix-like command-line environments 
  • Strong communication skills in English and presentation skills  
  • Curious, open to learning and committed with strong attention to details, able to work independently
