Job Purpose/ Role

In the Chief Market Office (CMO) of Allianz Re, our focus is on treaty reinsurance business with Third Party cedents. With teams in Munich, Zurich (Wallisellen), Singapore and the United States, we are writing European, Asian and US P&C reinsurance and retrocession business as well as Global Agriculture business.

We are looking for a Senior P&C Treaty Underwriter with experience in long-tail and structured reinsurance underwriting who is keen to join our Zurich or Munich team. A core aspect of this role will be to drive the profitable growth of our structured reinsurance portfolio in Europe and Asia.

As Senior P&C Treaty Underwriter (Long-tail & Structured) you will join the CMO Middle Office which collaborates closely with the CMO Front Office. Focusing on structured business you will be working across locations on business opportunities originated by our Zurich, Munich and Singapore offices.

We offer an opportunity to join a dynamic and international team that is embedded into a global reinsurance organization which itself forms part of one of the largest insurance groups in the world. The Middle Office is generally responsible for deal analytics which includes the structuring and pricing of reinsurance treaty business, wording reviews as well as ongoing performance monitoring, planning and reporting of the business in close collaboration with the Front Office. The Front Office is the client facing team within CMO in charge of sourcing reinsurance business and leading the client relationships.

Going forward, the Middle Office will play a vital role in shaping and optimizing our Third Party reinsurance portfolio from a risk-reward perspective and supporting data driven decisions in a deal/portfolio context.

Key responsibilities

• Analysis of underlying businesses and treaty reinsurance submissions/proposals.
• Reinsurance structure reviews and/or structure design in close collaboration with client managers, brokers and clients.
• Co-ordination of the technical analysis in close co-operation with different teams and functions within Allianz Re as required (e.g. Nat Cat Modelling).
• Reinsurance pricing including actuarial modelling and documentation of results and underwriting recommendations.
• Wording reviews of the relevant reinsurance programs within the framework of the Allianz Re underwriting guidelines.
• Provision of technical opinion to the Third Party Client Management function and input for related tasks (e.g. retro placement, risk capital calculation, etc.).
• Development of market knowledge and evaluation of market information.
• Gathering of in-depth understanding of cedents in terms of insurance underwriting skills, reinsurance strategy and buying behavior.
• Monitoring of treaty performance of reinsurance business underwritten.
• Preparation, analysis and reporting of estimates as well as support of annual planning process.
• Management of internal communication to ensure alignment of opinion about transactions within Allianz Re.
• Project work within Allianz Re.
• Willingness to travel

Qualifications

• At least a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a related field, such as Natural Science, Economics, Business Administration etc.
• Proficiency in English is a requirement, proficiency in other European languages is a plus.
• Actuarial qualification completed or close to finalization.

Experience & Key skills

• More than 5 years of practical work experience in reinsurance treaty underwriting and pricing including long-tail and/or structured treaty reinsurance.
• Very good understanding of treaty reinsurance practice and techniques.
• Demonstrated actuarial modelling experience in a P&C treaty underwriting role.
• Ability to identify and interpret critical aspects in contract wordings in relevant P&C lines of business within a short timeframe.
• Solid understanding of insurance companies’ financial statements and representation of reinsurance contracts therein.
• Strong analytical skills. Good IT skills, especially Microsoft Excel. Accurate and reliable working style.
• Experience in leading structuring discussions and negotiations.
• Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate across different functions, cultures and managerial levels.
• Strong team player, able to collaborate across a global organization, different functions and cultures.
• Willingness and ability to learn about new topics and to analyze complex problems.
• High level of personal drive and motivation.
