The Design Management International programme is looking to fill a vacancy in the areas of Service and Systemic Design to start on February 1st, 2025. We understand the complexity of living systems as multicontextual, unpredictable, and subject to emergent change. From natural habitats to organisations complex dynamic living systems rely on diverse communication approaches and interactions to evolve.

Tasks and job requirements

  • Conception of courses to help students develop knowledge and skills in understanding complex systems, dealing with complexity, and designing transformations to address complexity, and understanding transformations as second order effect. To help students understand how ideas and design approaches have shifted in time: patterns of thinking throughout history. To guide students, design and evaluate services, foster innovation capability, and preferable futures.
  • Development of content and didactics in the implementation of the curriculum in modules related to services and systemic design, Design Management Theory & History, and Enabling Innovation. The courses are:
Introduction to Systems & Sustainability,
Design Management Theory & History,
Service Design methods, processes and evaluation;
Enabling Innovation;
Seeing the system; Re-thinking the System; Implementing the System.
  • Lead, administer and coordinate teaching modules related to the above areas.
  • Supervision and mentoring of bachelor student theses.
  • Collaboration in the development of the design management programme activities.

Your profile

  • Master in Design or a design related discipline: a degree program to develop knowledge and skills on rigorous research to inquiry multicontextual realities, reflect, understand complex problems, take effective action to make a positive contribution, and when possible evaluate the impact of this contribution.
  • In-depth knowledge of current discourses in and around design management, systemic design, service design, complex dynamic systems, design for transformative innovation, design of interventions in complex systems, transition management, and design for regeneration.
  • At least five years of work experience outside of academia as a designer or design manager working with diverse stakeholders and in interdisciplinary teams to foster transformation. Understanding the "people" side of transformation and being able to facilitate such processes.
  • An active network.
  • Teaching experience at universities (preferably certification).
  • Excellent proficiency in English and German
