Axpo Trading & Sales is looking for a dedicated Data Strategist who excels in the practical application of data governance and leads its gradual implementation across all data domains. In this new role, you will collaborate closely with data owners and the Data Governance (DG) team to establish business data ownership across our global locations, including Europe, the US, and Singapore.

You will play a key role in gradually implementing the company’s data governance policies, ensuring that data management practices are consistently applied to enhance the integrity and accessibility of data across business units. As business owner of our data platform, you will lead the facilitation of data standards and compliance, collaborating with business representatives from across the hubs and divisions.

Furthermore, you will spearhead the evolution of our data landscape in collaboration with IT architecture and the Analytics Strategist, developing a data organization that seamlessly supports both technical and qualitative business needs. This role involves overseeing the development and effective utilization of data products that empower business units to extract maximum value from their data assets.

What you will do:


  • Oversee the development and phased implementation of our data strategy, ensuring it is regularly updated and effectively integrated across the organization.

  • Engage with stakeholders to align the data strategy with business goals, promoting best practices in data management.

  • Advise and partner with the DnA Council to steer the data strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization's long-term vision and executive priorities.

  • Collaborate with data domain owners, IT teams and the Data Governance team to refine the data governance framework in line with business objectives and industry standards.

  • Identify a suitable implementation roadmap and measure the adoption with appropriate, business-led KPIs. Lead cross-functional teams to implement and monitor data standards.

  • Business owner of our data platform, leading its strategic development to ensure it supports the business objectives and provides a robust foundation for data initiatives across the business area.

  • Provide strategic insights to the DnA Council and promote data literacy among senior leaders together with the Analytics strategist and our CDAO

What you bring and who you are:


  • University degree is essential, with preference for a Master’s degree or advanced certification in Data Management, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Pragmatic approach, looking to deliver results step-by-step and gradually creating buy-in from the business.

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams

  • Expertise in aligning data strategies with overarching business goals. Adept at both strategic planning and hands-on execution, with a strong ability to turn concepts into actionable plans.

  • 5+ years in managing complex (data) projects, particularly in the energy or commodity trading sector. thorough understanding of industry-specific standards and emerging technologies.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively navigating and connecting with diverse stakeholders. High personal integrity and professionalism are critical.
