Government Relations Manager – Ottawa, ON

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Director for Canada, the Government Affairs Manager will drive strategic government and external relations related to tobacco and nicotine products in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement strategic plans that anticipate development within the regulatory environment (Federally & Provincially).
  • Further expand the company's relationships with key government officials and their staff. Find opportunities for legislators willing to introduce our preferred advocacy positions.
  • Deliver the company’s positions and views via internal and external engagement. Participation in industry and governing agency meetings. Development of internal reports and presentations.
  • Assist CA&C Director in the development of Company views and positions regarding public issues which have a significant impact on the company's Operating Environment.
  • Coordinate and handle tasks performed by outside consultants in collaboration with the Regulatory Affairs Manager.
  • Handle various tasks and projects as they arise and upon manager’s request.

Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (political science, law, economics, public relations, etc.).
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in Corporate/Public Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, or political institution.
  • Strong communications skills (verbal, written, interpersonal).
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Bilingualism in French a key asset.
  • Must take initiative, demonstrate critical analysis, have shown influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively establish relationships and work collaboratively with both internal and external partners.
  • Must be able to prioritize and de-prioritize as business needs change.
  • PC literacy: MS Office
