Your responsibilities

Are you interested contributing to the development of environmental sustainability project associated to waste management? Would you like to have an impact on CERN's environmental indicators? The Campus Services Section is looking for a motivated and service-oriented project graduates with an academic background in the domain and a relevant experience.

In the SCE Department, we are looking for a person to join the team that coordinates services provided to the large CERN user community.

As a member of the campus services team (https://sce-dep.web.cern.ch/ssc-mandate), you will integrate the cleanliness and recovery team, driving project and lead the action plan implementation issued by the CERN Waste Management Working Group and validated by CEPS - CERN Environmental Protection Steering board covering the following objectives:

  • Limit waste production at source;
  • Improve waste traceability;
  • Increase the waste recovery rate;
  • Consolidate and extract data relating to CERN waste, measurement of volumes, KPIs and benchmarking;
  • Consolidate and strengthen the existing infrastructure associated with waste management areas.

You will also directly contribute to associated services and contracts management.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Requirements:
    • Ability to follow complex projects with many stakeholders internally and externally;
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, in particular MS Excel;
    • Fluent in English
  • Assets (not required but would be advantageous):
    • Knowledge of French and/or Swiss regulations associated to environment and waste management;
    • Experience with managing administrative and financial follow-up of projects would be an asset.
    • The ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Environnement / Waste Management (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • A valid driving licence.

What we offer

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
  • 30 days of paid leave per year.
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
