INNOVATE EVERYDAY: 

Tandem Diabetes Care Switzerland is developing Sigi™, a next-generation insulin “patch pump” that will offer additional treatment options for people with diabetes. This pump is based on a patented microfluidics technology developed in-house over the past 6 years. You can find out more about Sigi here

A DAY IN THE LIFE: 

The Firmware Team Lead will be responsible for the design and architecture of medical device software developed by the software department at Tandem Switzerland. The Firmware Team Lead is among the team’s most senior individual contributors and takes on some of the most challenging problems. This leadership role elevates the technical capabilities of everyone through mentorship, technical guidance, and by modeling Tandem values.

Working from Tandem Diabetes Care Switzerland’s office onsite in Switzerland, you’ll have to….

  • Play an active leadership role in the firmware development team within the software department.
  • Coach and mentor firmware engineers in understanding of software development procedures and best practices.
  • Organize and drive software projects following Scrum activities with strong focus on priorities, planning, backlog completion and deliverables quality.
  • Enforce strong software engineering practices, concepts, and techniques across the software teams.
  • Contribute to creation, maintenance, and reviews of software definition, requirements, architecture, design and tests.
  • Own software requirements and tests traceability.
  • Ensure all applicable standards are well captured in requirements.
  • Ensure software test strategy and support integration, verification, and validation activities.
  • Contribute to Risk Analysis, Usability Engineering, Sustaining, QA and RA activities as subject matter expert.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes.
  • Embrace the Design Control process by leading design reviews and maintaining design history files.
  • Prepare project status reports including milestone dates, product backlog tasks and other aspects of the Design Control process.
  • Review final project documentation (including Design History Files) for content and accuracy.
  • May act as designated Tandem Software Development representative with outside entities such as clinical research organizations.
  • May independently manage working interactions with external vendors, nearshore or Offshore activities and resources ensuring that deliverable and timelines are met.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.

YOU'RE AWESOME AT:

  • Deep knowledge and experience with formal medical device software lifecycle.
  • Skilled at fostering an environment that supports an effective exchange of information between diverse groups.
  • Ability to scope, estimate time needed and track large scale development projects.
  • Skilled at defining and translating high-level requirements into software architecture, design and implementation.
  • Able to lead cooperative work efforts within and between teams.
  • Adept at leading change initiatives and ensuring the redeployment of resources within and between groups to meet new objectives.
  • Able to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information.
  • Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) preferred.

YOU'LL NEED:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or computer sciences or related field or equivalent combination of
    education and applicable job experience.
  • Certification for Scrum activities or project management.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the field of embedded or mobile software for medical devices or a related area.
  • 5+ years' experience in RTOS, Low Level Interface, communication protocols and C, C++ languages.
