Secondary School Teachers hold an important role at ICS as they guide our older students on their path to IB exams, university, and future career choices. They have the unique ability to promote learning and personal growth by building on students’ natural talents as they mature through the years and gradually recognize their strengths.

Our Secondary Teachers must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture and a supportive environment within the school. They need to have a thorough understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning and encourage students to share their joys and concerns knowing they will always be supported.

This position is a maternity cover, part-time allocation (1 year).

Specific Responsibilities 

Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching IB MYP Music classes (Grades within the range of Grades 6 - 10)
  • Supporting and, if appropriate, facilitating Music Productions at ICS, including those which serve the curriculum (for example Grade 11 and 12 Theatre Productions)
  • Supporting Performing Arts extra-curricular activities.Suggesting developments for music-related resources and facilities
  • Using technology to enhance learning

Assessment and Reporting

  • Ensuring assessments support ongoing learning and providing timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments.Monitoring, assessing and recording each child’s progress and setting targets
  • Keeping parents informed about the learning of their children, and being proactive in communication with parents
  • Informing, in a timely manner that allows for early intervention, tutors and the Secondary Pastoral Leadership Team about issues of concern related to student welfare, achievement and behaviour
  • Recording and reporting student progress following the procedures established by the school
  • Attending Parent Teacher Conferences as one means of providing feedback on students’ progress, attainment and learning targets 

Curriculum development

  • Planning and delivering units and lessons for relevant classes
  • Teaching the Personal Development Programme to the class for which he/she is a tutor
  • Participating in the co-teaching model where appropriate
  • Ensuring curriculum plans are up-to-date for the grade levels he/she teaches
  • Constructing learning activities that challenge students and demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of the students in their classes 

Social and emotional aspects of learning as a teacher and tutor

  • Supporting the social and emotional well-being of the students in their classes
  • Demonstrating effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning
  • Assisting with the development of children’s personal/social/ and language abilities
  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment 

Supporting the collaborative culture at ICS

  • Contributing positively to the collaborative culture of his/her teams by being an engaged participant in team and secondary meetings
  • Liaising with the Head of Department and IB Coordinators to ensure that programme requirements are met within the classes taught
  • Contributing to the field trip programme.Maintaining a positive approach supporting the school’s policies and general ethos
  • Adhering to Secondary School deadlines
  • Assisting, as requested, with cover of classes for absent colleagues
  • Assisting, as requested, with the administration of exams
  • Attending Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences as one means of providing feedback on students’ progress, attainment and learning targets
  • Contributing to Extra Curricular Activities to enhance the school experience for learners

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current classroom teacher qualification to teach Music at Secondary level.
  • Minimum 2 years recent and relevant classroom experience.
  • Experience in an international school environment is advantageous.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Competence in using technology for both learning and information management purposes.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • A specialist, up-to-date knowledge of Performing Arts pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of children of 12 - 18 years.
  • Empathy and social skills.
  • Documented record of excellence in teaching.
  • A valid Swiss work permit or European passport is required.

This is a maternity cover for one year, a generous salary and a range of benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with the overall package reflecting the importance of the position.
