The Director, Clinical Research Equity is responsible for co-defining and working with Delivery Unit Diversity Equity Inclusion in Clinical Trials (DEICT) leads on setting the overall DEI strategy and goals for J&J Drug development, to ensure diverse patient representation across global clinical trials. This role will liaise with other stakeholders across Global Development (GD) and the enterprise to communicate a coherent, aligned strategy across all levels of the organization.  They will focus on equipping employees within Global Development with clear DEICT strategy and develop new tactics to reach diverse populations as an integral member of the central DEICT strategy team. This role requires a strategic mindset, effective stakeholder management, and ability to manage multiple ongoing initiatives simultaneously.


Internal facing:


·       The role will establish engagement early in the development lifecycle to advise program teams on DEI strategy to enable recruitment of a more representative patient population.


·       The role will define, implement, and enforce key standards, processes and templates across all GD functions to ensure consistent messaging throughout the organization and enable a connected J&J approach on DEICT. The role will present DEICT strategy and process updates, as needed in written and in live forums.


·       The role will work cohesively with existing DU DEICT framework to cascade innovation across GD.


External facing:


·       The role will work with regulatory policy, market intelligence teams and external partners to monitor the landscape to identify best practices and current areas of opportunity in DEICT, including scoping emerging patient barriers and solutions for underrepresented patients.


·       The role will support external partnerships, including public-private collaborations, community engagement and vendor collaboration efforts in the US and beyond.


Focused on impact:


·       The role will also establish metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of DEICT tactics and community engagement initiatives and will be accountable for analyzing data and feedback to continuously improve DEICT strategies.


·       The role will support building the visibility of DEICT efforts within the organization and propel J&J further as a leader in DEICT across industry.


Primary responsibilities:


·       Responsible for developing strategy for embedding DEI tactics in specific therapeutic areas (Immunology, Oncology, Cross-TA or Medical Affairs) across the J&J enterprise with multiple stakeholders. Working in close collaboration with central colleagues to develop innovative approaches.


·       Oversee the development of innovative, cohesive strategy that embeds one of these areas:


1)      Driving inclusion strategies for Indigenous populations, LGBTQI, disabled, or populations in rural communities or those who are from lower socio-economic circumstances.


2)      Expanding inclusion strategy in geographies beyond US (in markets across Europe, Asia, North & South America, and Africa)


3)      Driving innovative tools (e.g. protocol AI) in the DEICT arena. Embedding DEICT considerations into early development strategies, including ensuring genetic diversity is explored.


·       Matrix leadership accountabilities, including managing and developing talent.


·       Develop, track and report on key performance indicators and metrics to support the continuous improvement and effectiveness of DEICT efforts


·       Develop, implement and enforce key ‘Diversity in Clinical Trials’ standards, processes and templates to ensure consistent messaging across the organization. Involved in representing DEICT in internal and external meetings as needed.
