Scrum Master (80-100%)

VSHN, pronounced like “vision,” specializes in supporting software development teams to make their work testable, deployable, scalable, and operable in any cloud environment, with a focus on efficiency and automation. We achieve this by providing self-service platform products like APPUiO and Application Catalog to developers and also by leveraging that to build custom solutions that ease the development and deployment cycle, sharing application operations responsibility through close collaboration with developers.

Your new role: Scrum Master for 2 Tech Teams

As a Scrum Master at VSHN, you’ll be a dedicated member of two tech teams, guiding them in continuously improving their workflow, fostering self-responsibility, self-organization, and team cohesion around their purpose and time-bound goals. While the dedicated Product Owner (PO) of each team focuses on "What" the team does, you, as the Scrum Master, will focus on "How" the team functions. Importantly, you will not become a Project Manager or work directly with customers, as we see this separation as crucial.

Scrum and Agile at VSHN extend beyond team-level activities to include cross-team governance, improving processes, representing team needs in hiring and personal education, and guiding VSHNeers in effectively navigating our self-organized structure.

Responsibilities summarized

  • Drive and support the team to continuously improve their workflow and how they handle capacity and team dependencies.
  • Facilitate plannings, reviews, and retros (Scrum Events), as well as your team's governance meetings.
  • Facilitate goal setting (OKRs), tracking progress, reviewing and process retros.
  • Be the link to the rest of the organization, working with other Scrum Masters, "People Operations" and other organizational roles to address matters that go beyond your team.
  • Actively participate in our Scrum and Agile Communities of Practice.
  • Facilitate and teach Agile, Scrum and Sociocracy 3.0 practices
  • Support team members with their Peer Review, provide feedback in other's peer reviews.

Company culture
As an organization, we thrive on diversity and self-management, orienting ourselves on Agile and Sociocracy 3.0 principles. We emphasize transparency, collaboration, and common goals, valuing Scrum-like workflows in our tech teams. Decisions at VSHN are made collaboratively, valuing reasoned arguments over hierarchical positions - we trust in self-responsibility in everyone, in people who share the responsibility of their team, and that decisions happen with the subject-matter experts, in our teams where we face the day-to-day challenges while getting the best possible support from the wider organization.

This job is for you if

You have:

  • A solid understanding of Agile and Scrum - while not insisting on doing Scrum strictly by the book, which we don't
  • Proven experience in guiding the teams' workflow using Scrum or other Agile methodologies, preferably in IT engineering or software teams
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills in German and English, one of them on a native-speaker level
  • Structured but pragmatic working and documentation approach
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving issues
  • Genuine interest to learn and develop personally, striving to become a better facilitator, coach and mentor
  • A positive feeling within you when you hear "Good enough for now, safe enough to try"

You like to work with and support people in their personal development, focusing together on positive outcomes, and are excited to work in a company with self-managed teams, no bosses, a high degree of support, and opportunities for personal development, where reasoned arguments hold sway over hierarchical mandates and your work makes a real impact.

As a bonus

  • Experience with Jira and Confluence or similar tooling
  • Experience with Sociocracy 3.0 as an agile, responsive organization's toolbox
  • Experience facilitating OKR goal setting, check-ins and reviews
  • A background in HR or psychology
