The School Nurse performs a range of functions across the Whole School and is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the school community. The School Nurse assists with promoting and protecting the health of the students, staff, and visitors and monitors the health status of the school’s population and provides first aid care, and training where appropriate.
Specific Responsibilities
Health Services & Care
Administer medication in line with healthcare plans and school policy.
Provide first aid and assess medical needs on campus.
Develop and manage Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs).
Refer students to appropriate healthcare providers and communicate with parents as needed.
Coordinate immunizations and deliver health-related staff briefings (e.g., anaphylaxis).
Health Education & Safety
Offer health education to students and staff upon request.
Ensure compliance with child safety standards and complete all required training.
Report any safety concerns promptly.
School Environment & Emergency Preparedness
Monitor and promote a safe and healthy school environment.
Maintain and restock first aid kits and AEDs.
Follow safety protocols and report hazards.
Parent & Community Liaison
Maintain confidential health records.
Liaise with families, school staff, and external medical professionals.
Provide health counseling and connect families to community resources.
The successful candidate will have:
Required/Preferred Skills and Experience
? Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role or relevant nursing experience in the health sector
? Work experience in the education sector (preferable)
? Experienced in safe manual handling practices
? Proven ability to work with stakeholder groups to complete required tasks across varied contexts
? Confident in working autonomously and in a team setting to produce quality outcomes
? Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively to deliver on priorities
? Current First Aid Certificate
Key capabilities and competencies
? Practical skills and qualifications for the administration of first aid and general medical care and treatment
? Relevant nursing qualifications
? Ability to provide age appropriate care
? Ability to respond in a calm and professional manner
? Advanced administrative skills across the Microsoft Office Suite
? Excellent time management and organizational skills
