Aurora Swiss Aerospace is an engineering center of expertise, specializing in advanced aircraft. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Engineering Intern to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
The intern will provide support with various tasks related to sustainable aircraft design. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Work closely with local and international teams to create sustainable aviation solutions.
- Conduct research on new emerging technologies, global outlook for sustainability, and air travel projections.
- Analyze and assess the environmental impact of various aviation technologies and recommend key technological areas for future research and development.
- Generate conceptual aircraft designs that combine state-of-the-art technologies with emerging technologies and analyze their performance against relevant mission parameters.
- Identify and develop performance metrics to assess and quantify the environmental impact of aircraft.
- Help write technical reports that are accurate, clear, and comprehensive to be peer reviewed by other engineers.
- Based on the specific field of interest of the candidate, the intern may also be asked to support the engineering operations team at Aurora.
- Enrollment in Bachelor’s or Master's program (Master’s is preferred) with a focus in Engineering or a related field.
- A strong academic track record.
- Experience contributing to a team in a fast-paced/competitive and/or self-directed environment.
- Background knowledge in one of the following areas
- Aerospace/General Aviation
- Flight Physics
- Aerostructures – Lightweight structures
- Propulsion
- Results-driven, take initiative and ownership to accomplish tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple topics and projects in a fast-paced environment and deal with different internal & external stakeholders from different domains in the organization.
- Ability to work in a fluid environment and foster a strong collaborative spirit.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to present and communicate to partners.
- Must be eligible to work in Switzerland with a valid Swiss passport or work permit or should be an EU/EFTA national with a valid passport to enable work permit application.
- Fluent in English: verbal and written. Additional languages would be an advantage.
- Strong engineering fundamentals with knowledge in the fields of Aircraft Systems, Aerodynamics, Propulsion, or Structures are expected.
- Demonstrated interest in sustainability and aviation. Relevant coursework and extracurricular activities are a plus.
- Strong understanding of aviation technologies including but not limited to lightweight structures, conventional and electric propulsion technologies, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or alternative aviation fuels, gained through coursework or previous experience is desirable.
- Programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, C++).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a multinational and diverse setting.
- Ability to accommodate flexible working schedule.
- Participation in extracurricular activities.
- This internship position will be based at our Aurora Swiss Aerospace office in Luzern, Switzerland for a minimum of 3 days a week for a total duration of 4 – 5 months (open for negotiation)
- This position may require some domestic travel.
