Company Description
At CERN , the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Job Description
Introduction
Are you a skilled and motivated electro-mechanical technician looking for a new challenge? The TE-MPE-MI Section is seeking a dedicated electro-mechanical technician to join our team.
Our section is responsible for the design, production, installation, and daily operation of interlock systems of particle accelerators across the CERN complex. The interlock systems play a critical role in the safety and reliability of the equipment and are part of the machine protection architecture, safeguarding accelerator components from damage due to beam impact or equipment malfunction.
You will contribute to the consolidation and operation of highly reliable interlock systems, such as the Warm Magnet Interlock System (WIC), Beam Interlock System (BIS), Powering Interlock Controller (PIC), and others, designed to meet demanding performance and reaction time requirements across CERN’s accelerator installations.
In this role, you will be actively involved in the assembly, installation, and commissioning of the next-generation interlock systems, ensuring their ongoing performance and dependability. This is a unique opportunity to grow your technical skills while supporting some of the world’s most advanced scientific machines.
Join us and take part in our mission!
Functions
As an Electro-mechanical Technician, you will play a key role in the assembly, integration, and support of CERN’s magnet interlock systems. You will be part of a hands-on, multidisciplinary team where precision, collaboration, and continuous improvement are embedded in daily work, offering opportunities to grow your technical skills in a unique and dynamic environment.
Your key functions will include:
- Assist in the installation, commissioning and operational support of magnet interlock systems.
- Contribute to the assembly, wiring and validation of electronic crates.
- Oversee the inventory management of components, spare parts and laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate the logistics, procurement and tracking of interlock components.
- Design mechanical drawings and 3D models for system components and enclosures.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electronic boards and interlock system hardware.
- Perform on-site interventions when needed.
