The Section of Slavic and South Asian Languages and Civilizations of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lausanne is inviting applicants for the postition of Graduate Assistant in the History of Islam in South Asia.

Expected start date in position : 1st August 2026

Contract length : 1 year, renewable 2 x 2 years, maximum 5 years

Activity rate : 80%

Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny

Your responsibilities

• 50% of responsibilities will be dedicated to the completion of a doctoral thesis in the field of the History of Islam in South Asia.
• 50% of responsibilities will involve participation in the research and administrative activities of the Section, as well as support for teaching.

Your qualifications

• MA (or equivalent) in South Asia Language and Cultures or a related discipline.
• Intention to pursue a thesis in the cultural, social, and political histories of Muslim societies in South Asia. 
• Knowledge of Urdu is required. 
• A good command of French and Persian is an asset.
