We are looking for a motivated and curious PhD candidate to join the newly forming research group Analytics and Informatics for Child Health (AICH) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The position is embedded in the Basel Research Centre for Child Health (BRCCH) - a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment where engineers, clinicians, and scientists collaborate to solve challenges in pediatric healthcare.

Your position
Our group conducts research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and pediatric healthcare, developing AI and machine learning (ML) methods to address real-world clinical challenges. Our core research topics include but not limited to the following topics:
- Interpretability and explainability of AI models in clinical settings
- Fairness and bias mitigation in pediatric AI applications
- Multimodal data integration and prediction, including clinical, medical imaging, and sensor data (e.g. ECGs)
Your profile
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
- Strong background in AI/ML methods
- Programming experience in Python and relevant frameworks (e.g. pytorch, weights&biases, high-performance cluster)
- Interest in clinical and biomedical applications of AI
- Strong motivation, curiosity, and collaborative spirit
- Fluency in English
