Job Summary
Internship position in an industry-leading interdisciplinary lab to work on the development and characterization of cellular models of the neuromuscular junction


The Position
We are looking for a highly motivated intern (current or recently graduated Master student) to join the Neurogenomics Section in Neuroscience and Rare Disease (NRD) at Roche. The project is focused on the establishment and characterization of cellular models of the neuromuscular junction and will give you the opportunity to gain experience in iPSC work, cellular engineering and in vitro differentiation, gene expression analysis, high-throughput assay development, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and live imaging.
You will benefit of the supervision of experienced scientists and of a highly collaborative Neuroscience department. You will have the opportunity to experience a world-leading industry setting and contribute to changing the lives of patients with devastating brain disorders.


As an Intern your responsibilities will be:
- Culture and characterize iPSC-derived muscle and neuronal cells
- Establish differentiation protocols for these cells
- Evaluate cells in biochemical and functional assays
- Record experiments and data according to industry standards
- Analyze data and present results at lab meetings
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

You are / have:

  • Biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, neuroscience or molecular biology student, enrolled in a Master’s degree program or within a year from completion at the start of the internship
  • Motivated to learn new techniques to explore the biology of neurodegenerative disorders
  • Practical experience with mammalian cell culture. Previous experience with cultivation and differentiation of iPSC-derived cells will be considered a plus
  • Basic experience in molecular and biochemical assays (qRT-PCR / Westernblot / ELISA)
  • Experience in microscopy will be considered a plus
  • A self-motivated and independent thinker with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking)


The position is based in Basel, Switzerland. Earliest possible starting date is 01.10.2024.
