Internship in Evolutionary Ecology of sub-Arctic Ecosystems (100%)

Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Internship in Evolutionary Ecology of sub-Arctic Ecosystems (100%)

The Department of Fish Ecology & Evolution (FishEc) in Kastanienbaum (near Lucerne) offers a 3-6 month paid

The position will be based in the group of Blake Matthews, whose group focuses on the ecological dynamics of natural selection, and the reciprocal interactions among ecological, ecosystem, and evolutionary dynamics. Information about ongoing projects can be found at http://blakematthewslab.com

You will support members of the group in the analysis of invertebrates and fish collected from Southern Greenland from field excursions over the past 5 years. Duties might include quantifying the species composition and trait variation of macroinvertebrate communities and life history evolution of zooplankton, and morphological and physiological variation of stickleback fish.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious and conscientious worker who enjoys lab work involving field collections of aquatic organisms (e.g. microscopy, photography, morphological analysis, sample processing). Prerequisite for the application is the enrollment at a university or college, ideally a degree program in Biology or Environmental Sciences (bachelor or master’s degree, but not yet completed). A good level of English is required.

If you are excited about the topic, and are eligible for an internship for a period between August 2024 and January 2025, you are invited to apply. We offer a collaborative research environment at our dynamic research environment at the shores of beautiful Lake Lucerne. If necessary, accommodation is available in one of our furnished guest apartments. The position is situated in the Department of Fish Ecology & Evolution.

Eawag is a modern employer and offers an excellent working environment where staff can contribute their strengths, experience and ways of thinking. We promote cultural and gender equality and are committed to staff diversity and inclusion. The compatibility of career and family is of central importance to us. We strongly encourage applications from researchers identifying as a member of a historically marginalized group.
