CERN will manufacture and exploit a pilot sector for testing the laser-beam pipe and pumping system of the Einstein Telescope (ET), the future European gravitational wave telescope. As a material engineer, you will participate in the installation, commissioning, and operation of such equipment with a team of engineers and technicians. You will participate in the surface cleanliness characterisation, outgassing rate measurements and the evaluation of the vibrational transfer function from the ground to the optical baffles of the vacuum chamber; in addition, you will perform alignment and optical measurements in collaboration with CERN and ET collaboration experts. You will also contribute to the coordination of the ET pilot sector installation and commissioning, and present the status report and obtained results in dedicated conferences and workshops. In addition, you will ensure field supervision of visitors and project associates participating in the measurement campaigns.

What we offer
About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
