Our mission
For 200 years, Mission 21 has advocated a world where all people can live together in dignity, peace and justice. As an international mission organisation, we build bridges between people from diverse cultural, religious and ideological backgrounds. Mission 21 is a community of partner churches and partner organisations spanning Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Together, we invite people to act in solidarity as part of the global church, and to take part in interfaith dialogue in our international learning community.
Our structure
We endeavour to achieve international cooperation on equal terms. Our structure reflects this objective: in the Mission Synod, our most senior governing body, delegates from four continents decide on the strategy of Mission 21’s work. Mission 21 is supported by the Protestant Reformed Churches of Switzerland (EKS/PCS), the Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Swiss Confederation (SDC), various foundations, and private donors. We are recognised as a charitable organisation; we are certified by ZEWO, the certification service for Swiss charities; we hold the eduQua quality label for continuing education and training providers in Switzerland; and we are a member of the ACT Alliance network.
Our activities
We align our work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, set out in the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’). We are guided in particular by SDG 16: ‘Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies’. In all our programmes and projects, we advocate gender justice, good governance, and climate justice. Our work is based on the interaction between religion and development, and it encompasses two closely interlinked areas of action: the international learning community, and international cooperation.
