Teamleader Bending Cell PLC-Software (80-100%)

What drives this department

Bystronic's robotic bending cell is our newest and some might say coolest product in the portfolio. From a software perspective, it's also the most complex product we have. The real-time integration between robot and press brake, the peripheral automation to move material in and out of the cell, and the complex interaction with the offline programming all make the robotic bending cell our most complex product from a software perspective. Not only does the product offer a rich and challenging set of engineering problems, but it is also a sector that is predicted to undergo significant growth. AI and other algorithms combined with the ever-increasing availability of computing power is making robotics more accessible to more applications. Come be a part of the robotics boom!

What you will be doing

The PLC Software Manager oversees a team of 7 PLC software engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering with specific expertise in TwinCAT3, robotics, version control systems like GIT, and software release and deployment processes. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage the software development lifecycle, guide the team in best practices, and drive continuous improvement in the development and deployment processes.

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software developers, ensuring high levels of motivation, productivity, and collaboration.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership in the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions.
• Ensure adherance to best practices for version control using GIT
• Master the tech stack: TwinCAT3, NC, TwinSafe (FSOE), KUKA, MxAutomation, MQTT, C#
• Provide third level support to technicians in the field.
• Support Global Head of R&D Software Engineering in strategic planning
• Manage usage and maintenance of the prototype machines used for development and 1st level testing
• Ensure adequate documentation of the software development

Your education & experience

• Proven leadership experience, with a track record of successfully leading teams towards achieving project goals
• Bachelor's or HF degree in an engineering-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.)
• Strong technical background with experience in Agile methodologies, tools, and techniques
• Proficiency in incident management practices, with the ability to effectively address and resolve issues as they occur

What you need to succeed 

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including OOP
• Excellent communication skills in both German and English, with the ability to effectively collaborate with international teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Deep understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Structured Text, C/C++, Python, or similar, with a focus on automation and robotics.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality software products that meet or exceed customer expectations
• Deep understanding of Agile methodology and experience working in Agile environments, with the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic and iterative development process
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding the status of development projects.
