Job Description:

Laboratory Technician – Polymer Formulation (m/f)

To support our Technology Department in the Advanced Materials division, we are looking for a Laboratory Technician – Polymer Materials. The position is a 1-year fixed contract with possibility of extension, and it is based in our Advanced Materials Innovation Center in Basel (Switzerland).  The role will encompass Huntsman Advanced Materials’ thermoset material technologies, covering a range of applications such as electrical encapsulation, industrial coatings, composites, and adhesives.

Your main accountabilities as Laboratory Technician – Polymer Formulation will be:

  • Perform formulation trials at lab scale and carry out material characterization tests to support our product innovation activities
  • Organize lab work and engage with other internal functions to ensure that work assignments are delivered on time and in accordance with the priorities
  • Document laboratory work procedures in a methodical manner and generate technical reports based on the experimental results
  • Organize calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment according to ISO and Quality Management standards and maintain corresponding laboratory documentation up to date
  • Maintain stocks of laboratory materials and chemicals and organize customer samplings
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with Environment, Health and Safety principles, Ethics & Compliance and International Trade Compliance guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in applied chemistry/chemical technologies or laboratory technician apprenticeship training
  • At least 3 years of experience in formulations of polymeric materials, preferably with epoxy, acrylate or polyurethane based components
  • Experience in coating formulations especially in the area of protective coatings is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of chemical laboratory safety and ability to work according to SOPs
  • Experience with material characterization techniques such as measuring thermal, mechanical and rheological properties
  • Good knowledge of IT tools (MS Office), experience with electronic lab notebook would be an asset
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with collaborators with strong communication skills
  • Passion to learn and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Fluent in English, any other language is an asset
