Specialist, Strategic Integration, C4IR Energy and Materials

The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation, engaging the foremost leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

The Forum’s Centre for Energy and Materials (CENMAT) aims to accelerate a sustainable, secure and just energy and materials transition that delivers on future societal needs. The Centre engages leaders from the public and private sectors to deliver new insights and multistakeholder collaborations at the global, regional and national levels. Through 4 different programs, CENMAT creates impact and value for constituents.

The Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) helps leaders anticipate exponential technologies and drive responsible sectoral and industry transformation. It creates and scales initiatives in a global network of government- and not-for-profit hosted centres which give national trailblazers access to a trusted platform of sharing, learning, and problem-solving.

Why we are Recruiting

To enhance impact in key countries and regions, the Forum’s Centre for Energy and Materials (CENMAT) and the Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) are partnering to establish independent 4IR centres thematically focussed on energy and materials issues in key countries.

These national independent centres affiliated with the World Economic Forum are set up by public and private organizations to drive innovation and impact, leveraging the Forum’s global platform and network.

The current centres with this focus are in Malaysia (focus on energy and digital transformation) and in Azerbaijan (focus on energy and urban transformation). The team is working on an active pipeline to integrate additional centres in 2024 – 2025.

We are hiring a Strategic Integration Specialist, C4IR Energy and Materials to successfully support the CENMAT collaboration with C4IR Malaysia, as well as the development of a pipeline of other centres thematically focused on energy and materials issues. The Specialist will support the collaboration with C4IR Malaysia and its interaction with the Forum’s Global CENMAT. The successful candidate will also contribute to exploring opportunities to collaborate with existing C4IR centres in the Forum’s network. The specialist will conduct necessary research, analysis and administrative tasks in energy, decarbonization and technology innovation fields to ensure the C4IR Malaysia centre can effectively draw upon global initiatives and related Forum communities to achieve targeted impact. Given the regional nature of the activities of the C4IR Centres, the candidate will also contribute to the wider regional engagement for the Centre for Energy and Materials.

Reporting Lines & Interactions

The Strategic Integration Specialist, C4IR Energy and Materials reports to Strategic Integration Lead, C4IR Energy and Materials. The Specialist will also build productive relationships with independent C4IR Centres as well as colleagues from the Forum’s Centre for Energy and Materials and Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and other parts of the institution.

Breakdown of main responsibilities:

  • Support  the C4IR Malaysia Centre to maximize its collaboration with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Energy and Materials and drive meaningful impact through the initiatives the C4IR Malaysia is engaged on (currently energy literacy, industrial clusters and hydrogen)

  • Assist C4IR Malaysia and future independent centres in countries along the full initiative value chain from initiative identification, desktop research, planning, incubation, and delivery under topics prioritized by the C4IR Centre and the Forum.  This can also include collaboration with relevant CENMAT teams in charge of related global initiatives to maximize synergies.

  • Support the Malaysia Centre, the Azerbaijan Centre and independent centres in sharing and scaling co-branded outputs and outcomes by leveraging institutional publication and communication functions. Support the centres in the design and delivery of co-branded and/or co-hosted sessions and workshops to initiate, iterate and accelerate workstreams.

  • Support – through research, creating relevant material and coordination - the development of a pipeline of future C4IR independent Centres thematically focused on energy and materials. Assist the development towards establishing such centres in collaboration with the Strategic Integration Lead and relevant external and internal stakeholders.   Apply stakeholder engagement and user-centric design methodologies and techniques to help the Malaysia Centre and potential future centres rapidly and effectively collaborate with relevant Forum global teams.

  • Keep records of engagement progress of relevant existing centres (Malaysia and Azerbaijan) and the pipeline of new centres, and ensure a good communication flow between all stakeholders.

  • Support the day-to-day management of centre relationships with focus on scoping and delivery of content, events and connection with the Forum’s global Centre for Energy and Materials. Collaborate effectively with the Forum’s overall relationship manager of relevant Centres.

  • Support CENMAT’s regional strategy by researching and strategizing opportunities to further plug in regional activities, such as the C4IR Centres’ activities, into the CENMAT regional strategy and relevant international processes
