The Bachelor of Object Design was initiated in 2009 and has since created an internationally independent profile within the university landscape of product design with a focus on sustainability, emphasizing formgiving, material circularity and the creation of economic, ecological, and social values

For the Object Design BA programme,
we are looking for you as of 1 February 2025 or by arrangement as a

Tasks and job requirements

*You will teach in the study programme Object Design and connect the discipline of product design with current discourses in society, economy, politics, art, sustainability, etc.
*You will enable students relate design theory and context to their own design practice.
*Your input will be rooted in the design modules, one-week block seminars, supervising seminar papers, supporting the development of topics for Bachelor's theses and mentoring written Bachelor's theses, in collaboration with other theory lecturers from other Bachelor's programmes in Product Design.
*At the department, you will have the opportunity to develop +Reflect interdisciplinary modules on the seven future skills of digitality, sustainability, critical thinking, explorative research, self-empowerment & engagement, creative entrepreneurship and material & practice, which are taught across all study programmes.
*You are actively involved in the strategic, content-related and organisational development of the Object Design programme
*You will communicate and network for the programme in your context, develop and foster relations with industry, specialist committees and research institutions
*Collaboration in research as well as in the teams of other study programmes is possible within an extendable scope of employment
*Expected start of teaching in Spring Semester 25 on 17 February 2025

Your profile

*You are a proven specialist with extensive knowledge of design theories, critical debates in design history, global challenges faced by designers, and issues around sustainable and regenerative design
*You are strongly related to professional practice and deal with pressing current questions about the future of product design and have experience in formulating and communicating them
*You have a university degree at Master's level; a doctorate is an advantage
*You are well connected in the national and international product design scene and its interfaces with other disciplines
*You are proficient in German and English (written and oral);
teaching and internal communication takes place in both languages
*You have completed further training in university didactics
(if not at disposal, this must be completed within two years)
*You have experience in teaching and research as well as strategic thinking and planning
*You work independently, are a team player and willing to work in a team as well as in interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and with external partners
