Overview of the role:

As the Regional Lead, Commercial Operations - Crude Product, you will play a pivotal role in managing, monitoring, and coordinating all aspects of physical operations desk(s) within our scope. Your primary focus will be to ensure that Operators safely and cost-effectively turn a physical trade into reality, in line with contractual terms. You will manage operational risks and priorities, ensuring superior communication between Trading and Operational layers, and supervising and reviewing team activities.

Main responsibilities: 

  • Manage, monitor, and coordinate all aspects of physical operations desk(s).
  • Ensure Operators execute trades safely and cost-effectively.
  • Provide operational and commercial context to support colleagues in Operations.
  • Independently identify vessels for nomination based on commercial indicators.
  • Review contractual agreements and associated exposures, recommending optimization strategies.
  • Reduce the use of non-ETRM software for Operational and Commercial reporting requirements.
  • Act as the main point of contact for internal and external issues or disputes.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, address operational issues, and produce meeting minutes.
  • Foster a positive work environment and serve as a role model/mentor for the team.
  • Assess risk in non-standard contracts and new regions/long-term tenders.
  • Review and coordinate implementation of resources, providing advice up to GoM level.
  • Conduct structured assessments of training and development plans for team members.
  • Propose training needs and ensure all team members have the correct commercial and technical skills for their role.

Competencies :  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the crude product industry.

Profile/Key Skills: 

  • Highly experienced in vessel cargo operations interacting with ports/terminals, agents, cargo inspectors, canal transits, bunkering, vetting, chartering, ship shore compatibility, blending on board, circulation, heating, internal transfers, pipelines, and international legal restrictions.
  • Experience of working in multiple regional trading zones, relevant operational network of contacts.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of multiple commodities, components and grade specifications, bulk product storage, product blending, inspection procedures, laboratory precision, and product regulatory compliance. Leverages same to deliver value in role. Strong understanding of physical operations and commercial indicators.
  • Proven capability of optimizing trader strategies by utilizing knowledge of product movement and relationships with external parties, accounting for the dynamics of delivery and supply, while resolving and communicating any transport issues that arise with traders.
  • Extensive knowledge of cargo shipment procedures, policies and industry standards, shipment regulations, truck, rail, pipeline, and maritime technical terminology, as well as relevant transport laws and the impact on oil movement operations.
  •  High degree of flexibility, proven initiative and capable of creative problem solving.
  • Proven leadership, highly capable teacher and trainer, able to coordinate group efforts, determine priority needs and allocate resources to meet the dynamic needs of the Regional Operations Group. Proactively manages the professional development of those within the team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ETRM software is a plus.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.
