In recent years, the Museum of Fine Arts of Graubünden has become a reference point in the cultural world of Graubünden and Switzerland. Thanks to its strong international appeal, the museum records an increasing number of visitors every year. In 2025, a new visitor record was reached. The museum combines Villa Planta with a modern annex building, inaugurated in 2016. The impressive collection of over 8000 works includes pieces from the 18th century to the present day. Several exhibitions, events, and outreach activities take place every year to promote a global and comprehensive engagement with art. The Museum of Fine Arts of Graubünden employs about 40 staff members. The entities responsible for the museum are the Canton of Graubünden (staff and infrastructure), the Graubünden Society of Fine Arts (exhibitions and events), and the Graubünden Art Collection Foundation (collection).
Following the retirement of the current artistic director, we are looking for a prominent person to lead the Museum of Fine Arts of Graubünden into the future as an important cultural institution, starting August 1, 2027, or by agreement.
- Manages the museum operationally and ensures organization, finances, and personnel management
- Is responsible for the annual program, organizes exhibitions and events, and ensures their communication, outreach, and public relations
- Is responsible for the development, care, and presentation of the collection
- Develops strategies aimed at audience acquisition, inclusion, and participation
- Promotes lasting collaboration with universities and colleges
- Holds an advisory vote on the board of the Graubünden Society of Fine Arts
- Manages the affairs of the Graubünden Art Collection Foundation
- Maintains and strengthens relationships with a wide national and international network of artists, collectors, patrons, sponsors, lenders, foundations, as well as with politics and authorities
- Shapes the public image and represents the museum
- You have completed art studies or equivalent training
- You have extensive museum experience as well as many years of professional and managerial experience
- You have many years of experience in curating exhibitions as well as in business and project organization
- You possess proven expertise in modern and contemporary art
- You stand out for strong personal skills, excellent communication abilities, teamwork skills, and a confident and authoritative presence
- You promote a good working atmosphere
- Good knowledge of several cantonal languages and good command of English are an advantage.
