As part of the doctoral program in Ancient Sciences at the University of Basel, 1 one-year "start-up grant" is being offered. Endowed with CHF 32,000 (in two installments, with evaluation), the grant will take effect on 01.10.2026.
Your tasks:
The grants are intended to support doctoral students during the initial phase of their thesis. Within the first six months, grantees must submit a funding application to the Swiss National Science Foundation or another research funding institution.
Your profile:
The grant is intended for students holding an excellent Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ancient Sciences (all disciplines of the department). The grantee is motivated to engage within the doctoral program. The candidate will be involved in a thesis project located in one of the disciplines of the Department of Ancient Sciences at the University of Basel.
Candidates who are completing their studies may submit an application provided they can present the official diploma by 09.06.2026 at the latest.

6. Letter of reference The application can be submitted in German, French, or English. Grantees must enroll in the doctoral program at the University of Basel. The thesis supervisor must be a member of the Department of Ancient Sciences at the University of Basel.
