The Cantonal Laboratory Zurich is responsible for monitoring compliance with legislation on food, chemicals, tobacco products, and solariums in the canton of Zurich. We test food and consumer goods in our laboratory and inspect businesses. To fulfill this important task in the service of the public, we have a quality assurance system according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for testing laboratories (laboratory area) and ISO/IEC 17020 for inspection bodies (inspection area).
We are looking for a molecular biologist to immediately or by arrangement represent the head of the molecular biological analytics (MBA) department, 80 - 100%.
Your main tasks
- Supporting the department head in the personnel and technical management of the MBA department
- Assisting in planning investigation campaigns, reviewing analysis results, and ensuring timely sample evaluation
- Food law assessment of samples and, if necessary, enforcement of measures to restore legal compliance
- Implementing the requirements according to quality assurance under SN EN ISO 17025
- Participating in internal and external specialist committees
- Further development of analytical methods, also in collaboration with other laboratories
Your profile
- Completed studies in biology or a related field (e.g., food sciences)
- Solid knowledge in modern molecular biological analytics, especially PCR, digital PCR, and NGS
- Structured, independent, and reliable working style
- Motivation to familiarize yourself with new specialist areas and techniques
- High quality awareness ideally acquired in a working environment according to SN EN ISO 17025
- Interest in a long-term commitment and in obtaining the diploma for official food control (DAL) alongside work
- Very good German language skills, both spoken and written, for clear, timely, and audience-appropriate communication with businesses, administration, and colleagues
- Enjoyment of supportive and challenging collaboration with superiors, colleagues, and subordinates
- Experience in staff management is a plus
