Position Engineer / Technician

Candidates must hold a master’s degree in civil engineering and have at least three years of professional experience. A PhD is not required, but an interest in performing structural design in a research setting is expected.
The employment rate will range between 40% and 100% and may evolve over time, depending on the candidate’s availability. This is a one-year contract, renewable. Earliest start date is April 15th or as soon as possible.
The main project consists of the structural assessment of concrete slabs in damaged buildings in Kiev oblast and the engineering required for their deconstruction with a view to their reuse in new housing in Ukraine. This project is supported by EPFL Tech4Dev and carried out in collaboration with a humanitarian architecture firm and local contractors in Kiev oblast.
In addition to this project and depending on the employment rate, the candidate may also contribute to an EU Horizon project whose tasks include assessing the load-bearing capacity of a selection of typical low-rise residential buildings in Europe and structurally optimising a new façade system for them, in collaboration with foreign industrial and research partners.
The candidate may also to contribute to various teaching activities and the supervision of architecture and civil engineering students at bachelor’s and master’s level.

About us
The Structural Xploration Lab is a group of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in architecture and civil engineering. It is known for its development of tools, design methods, large-scale analyses and built prototypes aimed at enabling the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector to adopt more circular load-bearing systems. SXL also contributes to teaching building technologies and circular practices to undergraduate, master’s students and professionals in architecture and civil engineering.
