About the job
AV Event Technician | Focus on Network & IT Integration (80–100%) (a)
Location: Dübendorf or St. Gallen (Empa)
Your Mission
In a research environment where new ideas emerge daily, our IT infrastructure provides the stable foundation – and you ensure that it functions reliably. As an AV event technician with a focus on network & IT, you ensure that audio/video systems and networks run smoothly at our events – from setup through support of partially hybrid events to execution. Thanks to your technical know-how, you detect problems early, solve them efficiently on-site, and thus create a disruption-free experience for all involved. You also apply your knowledge in defining customer needs, designing network components, and sizing security-relevant configurations in the fields of measurement technology and IoT.
Your Impact on Our Research
- You technically support and assist research and large-scale events – including network planning, audio/video setup, and live support.
- You analyze, optimize, and resolve issues in complex network environments, especially in streaming and A/V areas.
- You plan, integrate, and maintain secure IoT and media technology systems – from sensors and cameras to comprehensive surveillance solutions in the campus network.
- You perform monitoring, performance analyses, and documentation using common tools.
- You work closely with IT security, server, and collaboration teams to ensure a stable and secure communication infrastructure.
- You actively participate in the setup, testing, and operation of media technology and bring your hands-on mentality.
- Completed training or studies in media technology, event technology, IT, or a comparable field.
- Solid knowledge in audio/video technology, AV system integration, and network technology (LAN, WLAN, streaming protocols, IP-based systems).
- Experience in planning, installing, and supporting complex AV and IoT systems, ideally also in large events or university environments.
- Confident handling of monitoring, analysis, and documentation tools as well as knowledge of network and IT security basics.
- Practical experience in troubleshooting, proactive problem solving, and hands-on AV engineering.
- Teamwork skills, communication strength, and independent working style – you can implement technical solutions independently and coordinate within the team.
- Interest in further development, process standardization, and taking responsibility in projects.
- Flexibility, commitment, and enjoyment of varied technical challenges, even at highly dynamic events.
