We are looking for a motivated, committed, and ambitious personality as a nuclear physicist or engineer who drives important projects in the Nuclear Fuel department forward with innovative ideas and thus contributes to the safe and efficient operation of our nuclear power plants.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- You take on project management and technical support for important licensing projects for new fuel types as well as new calculation codes and methods for boiling water reactors.
- You lead and support the strategic key project for insourcing engineering services for cycle-specific analyses of the Leibstadt nuclear power plant.
- You support the further development of the team's calculation portfolio with stochastic and high-precision nuclear methods.
- You continuously develop the steady-state models for the Leibstadt nuclear power plant, using the software packages HELIOS/PRESTO-2 and CASMO-5/SIMULATE-5.
- You document your work in technical reports and communicate progress to the involved stakeholders (e.g., plants, suppliers, authorities).
- You coordinate quality and document management as well as planning and budgeting in your area of expertise.
- You also work in other areas within the group's responsibility.
Profile & Skills
- You have successfully completed a university degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field (a master's or doctoral degree is an advantage).
You have excellent knowledge of nuclear engineering with a focus on reactor physics and operational planning.
You have experience in developing nuclear models with deterministic codes.
You have proven experience handling lattice and nodal core calculation tools, ideally with HELIOS, CASMO-5, PRESTO-2, and/or SIMULATE-5.
You are an experienced Linux and Windows user.
You are familiar with core and fuel design as well as loading processes.
You are knowledgeable about approval procedures for fuel element design and the corresponding regulatory requirements (both Swiss and international).
You work in a structured and systematic manner and are able to build strong networks with stakeholders through your excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
You speak fluent English and German, both orally and in writing.

The Nuclear Fuel Operational Planning group is the competence center for nuclear physics at Axpo and reliably supports the Beznau and Leibstadt nuclear power plants.
