Your tasks
Learn to intervene professionally: During internships at the Basel professional fire brigade, you will learn professional intervention and assist with rescues of people and animals, accidents, fires, water rescues, CBRN operations, technical assistance and natural events.
Internal company tasks: Depending on your prior knowledge and operational needs, you will contribute in your assigned department and take on exciting tasks in areas such as project work, logistics, training, deployment planning or other specialist fields.
Receive foundational knowledge: The technical as well as theoretical knowledge and skills will be taught to you at the Higher Technical School for Rescue Professions in Zurich. There you will network with candidates from other professional fire brigades.
Work model: At the beginning, you will mainly work day shifts. During the course of the training, you will increasingly take on 24-hour shifts.
Your profile
Experience: You have already gained practical experience in your professional field.
Personality: You have robust health and physical fitness (suitability for respiratory protection) as well as good eyesight and an impeccable character. You are willing to work shifts and are characterised by teamwork and flexibility.
Education: You have completed a three-year apprenticeship or degree. In addition, you hold a category B driving licence for manual transmission (category C must be obtained before the start of training).
Language: You have very good German skills and understand the Swiss dialect. Both are essential for daily work. English skills are an advantage.
Insight into our work
The rescue service as part of the Department of Justice and Security includes the fire brigade, ambulance, military and civil protection as well as operational support. It is committed to various tasks for the safety and health of the population. In total, around 300 employees are involved – they provide first aid for health problems, intervene in fires and other incidents to protect people, animals, the environment and property, and provide various cross-sectional services. All these activities directly benefit the people of Basel-Stadt and the region.
