As a scientist in the field of rockfall engineering, you investigate rockfall processes – including contact mechanics, energy dissipation, fragmentation, as well as interactions with various forest types and technical protective measures. Your research aims to improve hazard assessment and risk reduction, and also includes developing strategies to optimize natural hazard management in the context of climate change.
You develop innovative research projects, acquire third-party funding, and lead studies both independently and in collaboration with practitioners and researchers within and outside WSL. You supervise students, publish in scientific and applied journals, present your results at leading conferences, and contribute to the practical application of your research findings. Through these activities, you make a decisive contribution to the advancement of rockfall research at the national and international level.
You have a solid background with a doctorate or equivalent qualification in engineering sciences, geophysics, geosciences, or a related field. You enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams and are characterized by your ability to collaborate with practitioners. Practical experience in site investigations, field instrumentation, the design of rockfall protection measures, or cooperation with industry is a great advantage.
