Clinical research engineers for the neurosurgery Department
The neurosurgery Department is looking for two clinical research engineers for the Neurorestore center for an occupational rate of 60%:
Contexte
The Lausanne University Hospital CHUV is one in five university hospitals in Switzerland, and the only one in the French-speaking part of the country carrying out DBS implantations for Parkinsonian conditions, with more than 50 cases per year. Academically, it is linked to the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and it holds close ties to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).
NeuroRestore is a research, innovation and treatment center spanning EPFL and CHUV that develops and applies bioengineering strategies involving neurosurgical interventions to restore neurological functions. We integrate implantable neurotechnologies and innovative treatments resulting from rigorous preclinical studies that have been conducted during the last 15 years in rodent and non-human primate models. These developments have led to breakthroughs for the treatment of paraplegia, tetraplegia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries.
Mission
NeuroRestore is offering a Clinical Research Engineer position to work on the development of neurorehabilitation therapies for patient with motor disabilities (Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury), with a main focus on Parkinson’s disease.
The candidate’s main duties include:
- Assisting EPFL and CHUV researchers and clinicians in the implementation of clinical study protocols for the development of neurorehabilitation therapies in CHUV.
- Interacting with clinical study participants on a daily basis and serving as interface between the study participants and the research and medical team.
- Coordinating rehabilitation sessions with study participant (operating neurorehabilitation technologies)
- Assisting in the evaluation of study participants’ motor function (e.g. gait analysis, placement of EMG sensors)
- Coordinating data verification and compliance according to study protocols
- Device accountability across different studies
- Training of study participants on the use of medical devices
The qualified candidate will benefit from joining a dynamic and multidisciplinary group working at the interface of neurorehabilitation science, regulatory, medical science, engineering and prosthetics. They will collaborate with EPFL academic labs, CHUV clinicians and vibrant medical high-tech companies. The candidate will have the opportunity to work at the interface between academia, industry, and the clinic with collaborators from different backgrounds and cultures, including worldwide scientific experts in rehabilitation and neurotechnology.
Profil
The candidate will have:
- A master’s degree in biomedical engineering from an accredited institution (or similar)
- Excellent team-working and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project and time management skills combined with strong demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Fluent use of French and English
It would be a plus to have:
- Experience with patient care and understanding of health environment
- Experience in conducting clinical research
- Good knowledge of clinical trial documentation
