With nearly 1,100 employees, the Department of Psychiatry fulfills a triple mission covering the treatment of mental disorders, training, and research.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Service (SPG) is responsible for the mental health of elderly people according to three intervention axes: the treatment of general psychiatric illnesses in the elderly, the prevention and treatment of cognitive disorders and dementia, as well as short-term crisis intervention with targeted therapeutic offers. One of the fundamental objectives of gerontopsychiatric treatment is to enable patients to spend as much time as possible at home by providing care for psychiatric and cognitive disorders while taking into account medical comorbidities affecting their physical health.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Service of the HUG is the largest university institution in Switzerland for the care of psychiatric illnesses in the elderly. A particular feature is the offer of an integrated postgraduate training program in psychiatry and psychotherapy of the elderly, which also takes neurological pathologies into account.
Job Description
As a neurology assistant physician, you are responsible for organizing the neurological care of patients within the Geriatric Psychiatry Service (SPG), particularly in collaboration with the Dementia Treatment and Prevention Unit (UTPD) and the cognition counseling team. Your mission is to ensure, in collaboration with the care unit teams, the management of neurological comorbidities of patients hospitalized at the SPG. This activity takes place in close collaboration with the somatic care team, cognition consultation and psychotherapy, as well as all other SPG structures.
Additionally, the activity involves teaching within the framework of postgraduate training and setting up training related to neurological comorbidities for SPG staff. The activity is carried out in close collaboration with the liaison team of the Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics (DRG). Your role as assistant physician involves close and collegial collaboration with all organizational units of the service: General Psychiatry Unit for the Elderly (UPGA), Dementia Treatment and Prevention Unit (UTPD), Crisis Intervention and Psychotherapy Unit for the Elderly (UCPT).
In this sense, you are part of a multidisciplinary team and are responsible for the neurological supervision of care within the SPG. You have the opportunity to develop research and teaching activities. If you wish to pursue an academic career, you will be actively encouraged and supported.
Qualifications
You hold the federal medical diploma (FMH) or training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).
You possess a federal postgraduate title in neurology or an equivalent qualification. You must have completed a doctoral thesis - if this was done abroad, it must be recognized in Switzerland. For non-French speakers, a C1 level in spoken and written French is required.
You demonstrate excellent communication skills in multidisciplinary teams and with patients, and you are a dynamic, flexible, and committed person.
Furthermore, you have demonstrated strong adaptability. You show openness of mind and possess leadership qualities that allow you to supervise and mentor physicians in training, as well as support and motivate staff. You have demonstrated teaching skills and have a strong interest in research and innovation.
Finally, you have the ambition to promote and develop a high-level clinical and academic activity. You are comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams and demonstrate good team spirit.
