Its mission includes medical, surgical, psychiatric, and medico-social assessment of patients for immediate treatment and secondary orientation (to CHUV services, surrounding hospitals, other care structures, or home). It receives more than 60,000 patients annually. The department is actively involved in the development and possible implementation of the institutional disaster plan and crisis management.
