About the job
The city of Illnau-Effretikon - located between Winterthur and Zurich - offers attractive conditions for around 18,000 inhabitants with its rural and urban areas, hamlets, centers, and the historic village of Kyburg.
The employees of the Civil Engineering Department ensure user-oriented management of roads, green spaces, forests, waters, water supply, sewerage, and disposal. To complement our team, we are looking for a
specialist starting July 1, 2026, or by arrangement
YOUR TASKS IN THIS POSITION ARE:
- Maintenance, care, and cleaning of public green spaces, city trees and their underplanting, paths, and public squares
- New construction and modification of facilities
- Care and mowing work on meadow areas including neophyte control
- Maintenance and care of cemetery planting and preparation of burials
- Maintenance, repair, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment
- Winter service mechanically and manually
- Assistance with all tasks in the maintenance operations area
- Maintenance and cleaning of public waste containers as well as weekend deployment
- Assistance at the main collection point (disposal)
- Implementation of occupational safety and health protection measures
- Performing deployments in winter service, during storms, and at cultural events (also outside regular working hours and on weekends)
- Performing on-call duties
YOUR PROFILE FITS PERFECTLY IF YOU:
- have, preferably, a completed vocational training as a specialist in operational maintenance, gardener (specializing in garden and landscape construction EFZ), or comparable, and ideally have already gained some professional experience
- appreciate an independent and quality-conscious way of working
- have cemetery experience, ideally completed further training as a cemetery specialist and several years of experience
- are fluent in German, both spoken and written
- have good manners to build a good rapport with internal and external customers
- hold a driving license category B and BE
- can be at the workplace within 20 minutes for winter service deployments
- enjoy digitalization and its application
- like working in a small team and are team-oriented, resilient, and loyal
- have joy in a well-maintained public space
