Neuenegg, August 26, 2016 – After more than six months of construction and an investment of over ten million Swiss francs, Wander AG today inaugurated its new production facility equipped with the most modern technologies in Neuenegg. The facility centralizes the production of Ovomaltine crunchy cream from the entire European region in Neuenegg. Previously, the Swiss food company produced the spread in Belgium.
With this counter-cyclical investment by today's standards, Wander AG once again proves that Switzerland remains internationally competitive as a production location. Arnold Furtwaengler, CEO of Wander AG, is correspondingly proud of this development: „The entire Wander workforce has worked hard for the expansion of Ovomaltine production and we are very pleased with our success. We have equally invested in new manufacturing technology, in our Neuenegg location, and thus significantly in the Swiss production site.“ René Wanner, mayor of Neuenegg, was also present at today's inauguration of the new production line. For him, the new facility is also an important signal: „For our community, the expansion of production is a major event. Wander AG is an important employer for us. With this large project, it strengthens the Neuenegg location. We are proud to host an internationally active company.“
50,000 jars per day
The new production facility is equipped with the most modern technologies. The ball mills, which mix the ingredients for the spread, are the most powerful of their kind. On an area of around 1,200 m2, Wander AG now produces 50,000 jars of the Ovomaltine crunchy cream spread daily with its fully automated production and filling line. With the increased production capacity, Wander AG responds to the development of sales figures: Since the launch of Ovomaltine crunchy cream in 2005, the demand for the spread has increased worldwide by more than 20 percent annually. A trend that, according to Furtwaengler, is expected to continue in the coming years: „Ovomaltine crunchy cream is extremely successful worldwide and still has much potential that we now want to exploit with the expansion of the facility.“
Regular taste tests for consistent flavor and quality
For Wander AG, it is paramount that the relocation of production causes no changes in the taste of Ovomaltine crunchy cream. Despite new machines and a new production site, the spread should remain exactly as consumers know it. To ensure this, a „taste test“ takes place every week in Neuenegg. Professionally trained individuals taste the spread and evaluate, among other things, its texture and „crispiness“.
