The Counseling Department supports low-income families in psychosocial and financial matters and offers telephone short consultations, debt counseling, social counseling for families, as well as mobile social counseling.

We are looking immediately or by arrangement to complement our counseling team for a

Social Worker in the «Mobile Social Counseling» (80%)

in Zurich Schwamendingen.

Your tasks

Within the framework of Mobile Social Counseling, you make an important contribution to supporting families affected by poverty in Zurich Schwamendingen. Your tasks are diverse and practical:

• Counseling families at the poverty line in Zurich Schwamendingen at two locations on site («Walk-in») during two consultation hours per week (including one evening)
• Counseling families at the poverty line from Zurich Schwamendingen in the office at Beckenhofstrasse 16 (main building Caritas Zurich) by appointment
• Supporting and accompanying families in securing their basic existence, especially in the areas of finance, housing, education, and everyday coping, as well as promoting sustainable perspectives
• Referring families to specific specialist agencies and accompanying them to difficult appointments
• Professional exchange and collaboration in the counseling team, including taking on telephone and personal short consultations in the main building of Caritas Zurich
• Participation in media and public relations work of Caritas Zurich, e.g., through professional contributions, case examples, or participation in events

Our requirements

You enjoy counseling families in challenging life situations. You already recognize the conditions for sustainable change in small steps.

Complex contexts do not unsettle you; on the contrary, you approach them with composure and full curiosity. The resources, strengths, and independence of your clients are your focus, and you meet them with appreciation and respect.

In addition, you bring the following:

• Completed degree in social work with several years of counseling experience
• Experience in low-threshold or outreach social work
• Enjoyment of direct encounters in a walk-in setting
• Experience with the orientation of financial support within counseling settings is an advantage
• Efficient, independent, and goal-oriented working style

The workplace is at Beckenhofstrasse 16, 8006 Zurich, as well as consultation hours in Zurich Schwamendingen.

Start of work: immediately or by arrangement.
