The EOC, the multi-site hospital of Ticino, is present with its institutes throughout the entire cantonal territory for a total of 1,000 beds. The Cantonal Hospital Authority (EOC) is looking for a specialist for the position of
Deputy Head of Gastroenterology of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service at the Regional Hospital of Bellinzona and Valli (100%)
Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service at the Regional Hospital of Bellinzona and Valli (ORBV)
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service of the ORBV:
- ensures all Gastroenterology competencies for the entire ORBV
- has a state-of-the-art endoscopy platform
- performs over 2200 endoscopic procedures annually, including complex elective procedures (ESD, ERCP, echoendoscopies)
- conducts over 2000 consultations (excluding endoscopic activities) in outpatients and inpatients
Main responsibilities
- lead the clinical management of the Service, the endoscopy platform, and the outpatient clinic;
- manage, lead, train, and evaluate the medical staff of the Service, promoting their professional growth;
- play a proactive role in the establishment and development of the new EOC Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service, contributing to the definition of the organizational model, clinical protocols, and strategic vision;
- coordinate activities with nursing and administrative staff, ensuring high-quality care in a collaborative environment;
- promote collaboration with other EOC Services;
- develop and monitor care safety, quality, and clinical governance programs;
- contribute to achieving clinical, safety, and efficiency objectives, in line with the directives of the ORBV Management and the Medical Area;
- promote a culture of continuous improvement and patient empowerment;
- strengthen relationships with general practitioners, pediatricians, and local institutions;
- support Management in defining and implementing strategy, respecting quality and financial objectives.
Requirements
The candidate must have:
- federal specialist certification in Gastroenterology according to articles 20 and 21 of the Federal Law on University Medical Professions (LPMed). For foreign qualifications, Mebeko recognition is required before starting activity at the EOC;
- preferably holding the advanced training certificate in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography ERCP (SGG);
- desirable university teaching qualification (Switzerland or abroad), or the possibility to obtain it within 24 months of appointment;
- desirable additional training in business management;
- proven experience in Gastroenterology, gained in a senior physician role at a cantonal or university hospital;
- proven experience in clinical and managerial leadership of a hospital Gastroenterology Service;
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to manage relationships with patients, families, and collaborators in line with EOC values;
- experience managing high-volume outpatient clinics;
- willingness to propose a strategy to develop Service efficiency and optimal resource management;
- commitment to promoting professional development of collaborators;
- teamwork orientation, dialogue, and interprofessional collaboration;
- aptitude for developing basic and continuing education in Gastroenterology;
- excellent command of the Italian language and good knowledge of English or another national language.
