Postdoc / Advanced Researcher 60%
At the Institute for Language and Communication for the SNSF-funded project «Fluency in Speech and Signing» (FluSS), we are looking for a committed personality starting February 1, 2026, or by arrangement.
The interdisciplinary research project FluSS consists of three subprojects dealing with the following topics:
- Fluency across modalities (spoken and sign language) and proficiency levels (L1/L2)
- Automatic analysis of fluency in spoken and sign languages
- Cross-modal cognitive processes in spoken and sign languages
The advertised position relates to topic 1. The project is carried out together with the University of Zurich, Institute of Computational Linguistics, and Leiden University, and the position is limited to four years.
Your area of responsibility
- Development of stimuli and instruments in spoken and sign languages, together with deaf and hearing colleagues
- Recruitment of study participants
- Data collection, preparation, and analysis, in cooperation with the other universities
- Collaboration in the annotation of language data
- Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals
- Regular participation in project meetings at HfH and UZH (location Zurich Oerlikon)
- Collaboration at the Institute for Language and Communication
- Optional involvement in teaching Bachelor / Master Sign Language Interpreting
Your profile
- Doctorate/PhD in Sign Language Linguistics, Applied Linguistics (e.g., focus on second language acquisition), or a related discipline
- Very good German and English skills, knowledge of Swiss German Sign Language or willingness to acquire knowledge, French skills are an advantage
- Good quantitative and qualitative methodological knowledge in Applied Linguistics and related disciplines
- Knowledge of statistics
