The group „ Stand Dynamics and Silviculture “, which researches stand development and its management by humans, is looking for a technical employee starting April 1, 2026 or by arrangement, initially for two years with the option of extension.
You will conduct forest growth inventories in forest reserves throughout Switzerland in a two-person team. You are responsible for work planning (preparation of necessary documents and data, logistics, materials, etc.) and supervise assistants (e.g., civil service workers). Your tasks also include setting up experimental plots and their maintenance. Furthermore, you are responsible for high data quality and complete documentation of the work performed in German technical reports. Additional information about the project can be found at: Monitoring Natural Forest Reserves Switzerland
You have completed training as a forester, forest ranger, forest engineer, or BSc./MSc. in forest/environmental sciences and have already gained experience in forest inventories. You possess solid knowledge of native tree species as well as a good understanding of their ecological functions and enjoy working outdoors. Your good physical condition and flexibility enable you to participate in multi-day field assignments throughout Switzerland, even in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, you have good IT skills (MS Office); user knowledge of geographic information systems is an advantage. You are communicative, work very carefully and reliably, and enjoy working in a team. Good German skills and a valid category B driving license are a must; English and knowledge of an additional national language are advantageous.
