About Wealth Advisory

The Wealth Advisory Team is a division of the Private Bank that focuses on the Wealth and Estate planning needs of the International HNW and UHNW client base. There is specific emphasis on the provision of holistic advice, helping clients understand the tax and legal implications of their multi-jurisdictional holdings, the establishment of trust structures via third party fiduciary service providers or through use of the Barclays in-house trust company in India, and identifying liquidity planning needs for HNW and UHNW clients. Wealth Advisors are drawn from a range of backgrounds in law, tax, trusts, insurance.

Senior Wealth Advisor role

The role holder will lead the Wealth Advisory proposition for Barsuisse (Geneva and Zurich). The role holder will also provide additional Wealth Advisory support to the Monaco platform.

The role holder will provide a broad range of estate planning services to clients of the International Private Bank, who hold cash and assets under management with Barclays (with values in excess of £5million). This is achieved through analysing the holistic estate planning needs of HNW and UHNW international clients, (including a specific focus on Swiss onshore clients as well as other continental European clients), and by applying technical skills and experience, the role holder will provide innovative, creative solutions to a broad range of cross border estate planning client requirements in coordination with each client’s tax / legal advisors. This may result in the establishment of either a trust or provision of an insurance solution. Examples of typical scenarios could include assisting client’s in the identification of an optimal structure to hold an asset to be acquired, providing a succession plan for a client’s family business together with all governance aspects, or helping a client with all wealth advisory considerations when re-locating from one jurisdiction to another. This may also involve the re-structure of an existing wealth structure or the transfer of a trust / corporate structure from one fiduciary provider to another. This is a client facing role involving regular meetings and engagement with the Bank’s key clients with a responsibility to directly contribute to revenue generation, seek NNA and to encourage the Bank’s key clients to conclude estate planning structures based on advice provided. The role holder will have an understanding in the provision of advice for the Bank’s Res non Dom client base covering pre-UK arrival planning, clean capital planning, analysing investment suitability and dealing with all remittance related matters.

The role holder will seek new business opportunities from the Private Bankers and progress all leads through to completion of sale, (where appropriate), including the preparation of technical material, follow up and tracking of leads within pipeline tracking system.

The role holder will take an active role in business development, leveraging external contacts (KBIs, Fiduciaries, lawyers, accountants etc) with a view to sourcing ‘New to Bank’ clients.

Core accountabilities

The role holder will play a key role in supporting Barsuisse Bankers in Geneva and Monaco with ancillary support of the Monaco Bankers working alongside other Wealth Advisors. This involves sharing the client relationship management responsibilities with the Private Bankers and educating Private Bankers on all manner of technical wealth advisory matters to be presented to the Bank’s HNW and UHNW client base. The role holder will also work closely with the global Wealth Advisory team.

The role holder will also act as Lead Wealth Advisor for Barsuisse.

The role holder will deliver revenue from sales, (where relevant), and will be expected to actively contribute towards Private Bank Net New Assets (‘NNA’) financial targets. Through the role holder’s technical skills, he / she will be expected to deliver holistic advice on a broad range of matters enabling not only direct revenue to be generated but also in furtherance of protecting and growing Bank AUMs.

The role holder will regularly meet highly successful international private clients with net worth often northwards of US$20m+ and in some cases up to US$1bn who represent captains of industry, entrepreneurs and compromise the wealthiest individuals in many geographical locations

The role holder will travel to meet clients across multiple regions in accordance within the permissible cross border framework.

The role holder will also work closely with the global WA team i.e. share intellectual property with Wealth Advisors across all geographical locations to deliver a seamless global Wealth Advisory service to the client base as well as educating fellow Wealth Advisors in areas of particular technical expertise.

The role holder will work particularly closely with Group Tax and all other relevant stakeholders.

The role holder will play an important role in the risk management agenda, assisting FinCrime colleagues with technical structural / onboarding questions.

The role holder will be active in the KBI / Business Development space in particular with independent trust companies, private client lawyers and tax accountants with the objective of showcasing the Private Bank proposition and sourcing new business opportunities.

The role holder will adhere to Client Advisory Framework (CAF) principles and sales best practise, and will achieve accreditation as required by line manager

Supervisory responsibilities

The role holder will not have direct reports but will work in partnership alongside other Wealth Advisors based in London and India and will be expected to display team behaviours at all times including mutual provision of cover for absence.

Role requirements

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the financial services industry, legal profession, or within the field of provision of advice or services to personal clients internationally.

A critical requirement is to possess exceptional technical skills spanning multiple international jurisdictions, acquired through experience working for large private client law firms and / or in a Group Tax environment.

The preferred candidate will have proven sales skills. 

Professional/technical experience

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the fields of legal services, wealth planning, wealth structuring through trusts and other estate planning vehicles, and personal taxation planning for private clients. The role holder will have experience within the Wealth planning / private client arena.

Managerial experience

The successful candidate will not have people management responsibility but will be expected to operate and perform at managerial level demonstrating the highest standards of self motivation, professional behaviours, and the ability to deliver without close management supervision.

Academic and professional qualifications

The preferred candidate will have a strong academic background and hold relevant technical and professional qualifications. 

The preferred candidate might be a qualified Lawyer, Accountant, Wealth Planner, Banker, and will be a member of an appropriate professional body e.g. STEP. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 5 years post qualification industry experience.

The successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
