The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 950 people from 95 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) investigates distribution and causes of infections and non-communicable diseases. To understand and promote the well-being of people in different cultural and environmental contexts, EPH applies various methods ranging from anthropology and social science to biostatistics and mathematical modelling as well as observational cohorts with biobanks.
As part of this department, the Research Unit Society, Gender and Health is currently looking for a Project Assistant (30%) to assist in ongoing activities of the project IMProved ACcess To Mental Health Care (IMPACT-MHC)’s pilot phase. This project is implemented in the two cantons Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft in the coming months.
Your position
- Join/organize field visits and meetings with collaborators and stakeholders. This includes field visits to and in-person and online meetings with relevant stakeholders
- Interpret and eventually conduct semi-structured interviews with stakeholders within the project
- IMPACT-MHC’s pilot phase, including interviews with Arabic speaking refugees in BL and BS
- Support the organization of the project workshops in October or November 2025, and participation in all workshops. This includes supporting the preparation of a budget for the workshop, and supporting the accounting
- Participation in Peer Facilitator training, organize the group sessions together with the facilitators, and accompany and report the group sessions
- Assist in conducting FGDs and in-depth interviews with the refugees and asylum seekers after the group sessions (interpretation, evt. conducting semi-structured interviews)
- Support the team in translating study documents into Arabic or reviewing the translated documents
Your profile
- Native Arabic speaker or bilingual in Arabic
- Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social sciences, or related fields, or currently in the final years of study in these areas
- Experience in qualitative research or qualitative interviewing is preferred
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, particularly in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments
- Experience in group session moderation is preferred but not required
