The IT Services (ITS) of the University of Basel provide information and communication technologies for teaching, research, and administration as a central service provider. They support and advise the over 19,000 members of the university.
In the role of ICT Systems Specialist, you take on a central role at the interface of a modern, diverse, and service-oriented IT landscape that supports numerous scientific and administrative units of the University of Basel. As a member of IT Services (ITS), you contribute to providing high-quality IT services and act as an advisor for all stakeholders.
You actively network with IT specialists within the Services & Support team, the central ITS teams, and colleagues from other units. Through your strong communication and organizational skills, you significantly contribute to understanding requirements, developing solutions, and ensuring reliable basic IT services.
Your tasks
- Active participation in ensuring basic IT services throughout the entire client lifecycle (procurement, deployment, operation, maintenance, replacement) in an enterprise environment for macOS and Windows systems
- 2nd-level support for different user groups in the scientific environment; professional consulting, structured problem analysis, and targeted solution finding
- Support of research groups in research, teaching, and administration - e.g., scientific device control, lab IT, or specific software and hardware requirements
- Participation in management of central distribution technologies (OS and software deployment, patching, client delivery) and their continuous optimization
- Business analysis of internal processes, structured recording of requirements, and derivation of suitable technical or organizational solutions
- Participation in IT projects up to independent organization and handling of large organizational tasks in the university environment
Your profile
- Completed relevant education or training in the IT field as well as solid knowledge of the macOS and Windows operating systems in an enterprise environment, ideally with a focus on client management.
- Strong organizational talent with the ability to coordinate tasks in a structured, reliable, and efficient manner.
- High communication skills in dealing with different user groups; ability to convey technical matters understandably and clearly capture needs.
- Experience in analyzing requirements, identifying problems, and implementing suitable solutions.
- Motivation to familiarize yourself with project management methods and the ITIL framework; initial contact with projects or ITIL is welcome.
- Service-oriented, independent working style with high quality standards. Very good communication skills in German and English.
